There’s a strong cultural idea that our loved ones are “watching over us in Heaven” or are “protecting us” or that they become guides for us when they cross over.
But is that true?
Are deceased loved ones capable of wielding that kind of power from the other side? Do they want to protect us or do they want us to reap what we sow without interference? And are they even qualified to join your cadre of assigned spirit guides?
Watching Over Us
Deceased people do look in on their living loved ones but to varying degrees.
Some stay very close to us, especially right after they pass, so they can try to reassure us that they are okay on the other side. They will put their energy right beside you, if they can, and give you an ethereal hug. Or you may dream about them.
Some pop in and out, as they are busy on the other side with their own activities. They don’t stop living just because they no longer have a body. They are on the other side communing with other members of their soul families and enjoying reviewing and planning their next lives.
One of the best ways to connect with them after they have crossed over is to think about them, or light a candle, or burn incense, or stare at a photo of them. This draws their energy to you; sort of like you creating a thread they can follow back to you.
But the bottom line here is that they are still interested in what you’re doing, while also doing their own thing too.
Protecting Us
Deceased loved ones understand that when we incarnate the veil is drawn, we largely forget what life is like on the other side, and that free will is the order of the day. They will not want to directly impact the life you’re choosing to live. It’s not their wishes that matter, but yours.
They do not have the power to directly interfere or interface with physical reality. For example, they can’t push your car out of the way if you are about to hit a train. They can’t push you back from the edge of a cliff you’re about to fall over.
But they can send love, advice, and warnings periodically. They can insinuate a feeling into your gut to get you to pay attention to something going on around you. But this is very limited.
If deceased people could protect us from harm, we’d have a lot less tragedy here on Earth. Living would become by their design not ours. So their interference is incredibly limited.
Guiding Us
A lot of people think that their deceased loved ones become angels or spirit guides when they cross over. Human energies are not the same as angelic energies. We don’t become angels.
And our spirit guides are assigned to us by our higher selves before we are born. Your deceased loved one doesn’t suddenly get to join the squad.
Spirit guides are chosen for their specific ability to help you manifest your life intentions, either through their own experiences on Earth, or because of some aspect of their nature, or they have a specific area of expertise that you need.
That doesn’t mean that Grandma Rose isn’t trying to insert her ideas into the mix, but she won’t be an official spirit guide for you. Those spots are taken. And she is not necessarily qualified to guide you just because she cares about you.
Your deceased loved ones care about you on the other side, and they will do what they are able to do to protect and guide you. But you are not their primary focus.
The best way to get guidance is to tune in to your spirit guides, and also to focus on your loved ones when you want to feel their loving presence in your life. You’ll understand this all a bit better when you cross over too.
